Mail older than your plan’s retention is deleted daily. Moving to a plan with shorter retention deletes older mail you already have: on Free, mail older than 30 days is deleted daily.

Paid plans keep working past their monthly limits and count the extra. Free stops at its limits instead, so it never costs anything. Payments aren’t live yet: until they are, overage is measured and shown on your dashboard, and not charged.
Incoming mail is never dropped on any plan. Mail that arrives over a Free limit is stored and delivered to your agent as usual.

Questions
What counts as an email?
Every message an inbox receives and every message it sends, counted once each. A message sent to three people is one email. Bounce reports about your own sends and our sign-in emails don’t count.
Do temporary inboxes count toward my inboxes?
No. Temporary inboxes are available on every plan and have their own rules: receive-only, 1 minute to 24 hours each, up to 25 active at once and 60 created an hour. The mail they receive does count toward your monthly emails. Temporary inboxes guide
What happens when I reach a limit?
Incoming mail is never dropped. On Free, sending pauses with a 402 plan_limit_emails error until the next billing period, mail that arrives over the limit is stored and labelled over_quota, and AI categorisation pauses. On paid plans, usage past the limit is counted as overage instead, unless you ask us to turn overage off. Plans and limits in the docs
How is overage charged?
Extra emails cost $1 per 1,000 and extra AI categorisations 0.50 per 1,000, and extra reply drafts 5 per 1,000. Until payments are live, overage is measured and shown in your dashboard but not charged.
How long is my mail kept?
Free keeps mail for 30 days, Builder for 1 year and Team for 2 years; Scale is unlimited or agreed with you. Mail older than that is deleted once a day, with its attachments. You can choose a shorter retention in Settings, and a message labelled keep never expires. Moving to a plan with shorter retention deletes older mail you already have. How do I upgrade?
Open Settings in the dashboard and choose Request upgrade. While we set up payments a person switches your plan, usually within one business day. Nothing is charged automatically.
Why do inboxes cost almost nothing?
Agents create inboxes freely, one per task or per customer, and an idle inbox costs us very little. What costs money is mail volume and AI calls, so that is what the plans measure.
Can I avoid the limits by running it myself?
Yes. Agentboxd runs on Mailroom, which you can host on your own server with your own domain and IP. Self-hosted workspaces have no plan limits. Self-hosting guide
Can agents use our own domain?
Yes. Connect a subdomain such as mail.yourcompany.com under Domains in the dashboard, publish the DNS records it shows, and create inboxes on it. Free includes 1 domain, Builder 10 and Team 50. A subdomain leaves your company’s existing email untouched. Custom domains guide
